Yesterday, Linden Labs and Blizzard software released separate statements that both were collaborating on building a third virtual world. “Our goal is to provide a platform that offers the best of both worlds,” stated the spokesman from Linden Labs, “the flexibility and opportunity to explore and create of Second Life combined with the stability of World of Warcraft.”
Blizzard stated they looked forward to working with Linden Labs, saying they looked forward to helping to build the game, saying they looked forward to giving residents of SL a “less laggy” experience, “Unfortunately, some acts that they might consider griefing will be perfectly legal as combat and vandalism are elements in the game.”
The game, still in development, has been given the temporary name of Second Life of Warcraft, or “SLoW.” Players will be able to own private homes, and guilds able to build castles. However, these structures are vulnerable to damage by players on the other side. Although expensive defenses like magical golems and steampunk-like “Goblin Security Systems” will help discourage attackers from wealthier homes in the countryside, the best protection from damage is to buy a home within city walls.
There will also be more available races, and more variety in appearance. Human males can appear skinner than they do in WoW, no longer looking like football players, and males in certain other races no longer need to look like “man-mountains.”
