Torchwood: Children of Earth - Day Five

torchwood,Capt Jack,Gwen,Ianto Jones

Torchwood: Children of Earth is on BBC America this week, Monday thru Friday at 9PM. Last night was Day Four, in which we saw Jack tell the story of 1965 and those 12 children, the 4-5-6 [aliens] threaten to destroy the human race if they don't offer up 10% of the children of Earth, and Torchwood develops a plan to stop the government from meeting the aliens demands. The 4-5-6 release a noxious gas, and we see Ianto die in Jack's arms. [All I am saying is they better figure out a way to bring him back!] Can Jack and Gwen save the world? Here is the preview for Day Five.

The Torchwood team in on the scene. We also learn Jack has a daughter and grandson, and that Ianto's family is on to his relationship with Jack. Oh, and the government is after the team, putting them all in peril. And Gwen is pregnant, with Rhys' baby. Here is the preview for Day Two.

Torchwood - Children of Earth

Part of my geekdom that I hold near and dear is my complete adoration of all things Torchwood and Doctor Who [and some Primeval, too - and there is Being Human, a show I am checking out even if it hasn't aired in the States], BBC imports that just keep me coming back. Captain Jack Harkness appears in both series, a supporting character in Doctor Who and the lead in Torchwood. While I had already known of John Barrowman, this certainly heightened my fandom of him.

Season 3 is scheduled to show on BBC America next Monday, July 20, and run for five consecutive nights. It played in the UK this past week. I was eager to find out what will happen next to Captain Jack and his boy-toy, Ianto Jones. Damn, they are a hot couple! Ianto, played by str8 boy Gareth David-Lloyd, is gorgeous. And out actor/singer Barrowman wants lots of him. But this crap about waiting for a year for season 3, and it will be over in a week, just five episodes offered?

I had decided I would wait until next week to see it, because the trailers I had seen were very cool and I thought, I have been waiting this long, why not wait a little more. I mean, sure, they killed off two main people at the end of series 2, but that only left more time to focus on my favorites, so this should be good, right?

But that just wasn't in the cards, as I have no patience and so I found my way to Usenet and downloaded. I watched it this weekend, and it is exceptional. I watched it all weekend long, and was actually crying like a baby at times. It is more intense and darker than the previous shows, but I loved every minute of it. I won't discuss what happened until the show airs, for I am not a font of all things spoilerish.

I have pre-ordered my DVD, to go on the shelf with seasons 1 & 2, which I do watch from time to time. But I have read that there is still no commitment to a fourth season. BBC, don't do this to me. Tell me there will be more Captain jack!

Pride - I Am What I Am

I remember marching in the Gay Pride Parade while living in NYC, singing along to the Gloria Gaynor version of I Am What I Am while walking down the Fifth Avenue. It was the 80s, and we took the opportunity to be loud and proud. So, to celebrate Gay Pride Month, I thought it would be great fun to bring back this classic. Only, instead of using the version of the great Diva, why not use a version by a great gay man? That man is John Barrowman.

I am a huge fan of Barrowman, a wonderful singer and actor, an out and proud gay man. He entered into a civil partnership with his longtime lover, Scott Gill, in 2006. He currently stars in one of my favorite TV shows, Torchwood, having the hottest scenes with Ianto, played by the adorable Gareth David-Lloyd. Torchwood begins the third season on July 20th on BBCAmerica. In the opening of Season 2, Barrowman had a great scene with James Marsters [formerly Spike on Buffy, The Vampire Slayer].

Barrowman utilized the great voice of another out British actor, Daniel Boys, on recent tours, and they sang I Knew Him So Well from the musical Chess. [Boys has just released a CD I hope to get in the mail shortly and be able to review]

So, happy Pride, everyone!
