Star Trek Museum to Close

I am sorry to announce that unless things drastically change (like my winning the lottery) I will be closing the Star Trek Museum as of July 31, and will be giving up these islands. Its been a great nearly 4-year run, but it is time to move on. I hope you will continue to visit until then.

For a long time our house sales and donations have been inadequate to pay the huge Linden Labs bills. On top of that, Linden Labs has made it more difficult to attract people to the museum. We cannot be in the Showcase because we use copyrighted material. Our events, which brought hundreds of new visitors a week, and donations, have been disallowed, while yard sales, nude beaches, penis stores and fake contests are allowed to flourish) and it is especially difficult to sell homes with all the limitations and expense of advertising.

Without visitor donations and house sales, it is impossible to pay the bills. I have hung on as long as possible to try to save the museum, all the hard work by the staff and volunteers, and all the homes.

Besides the monetary cost of running this place, taking care of the museum, fixing and finding things, helping visitors and residents, advertising, bookkeeping, all require a huge amount of time and energy, and I cannot afford the expense or the many hours per day any longer. To be honest, I am really looking forward to having more time for my real life ;-)

To all of you who have been helpful around the museum, supported the museum with your tiers and rents, and generous with donations, you know who you are and how appreciative I am. I sincerely thank you again. To others, my only advice is to donate to the places you love in SL, or they may disappear too, as so many have.

With our home-world gone, Tsora and I will most likely be retiring to our little corner of the universe, the Vulcan colony in Eridani, and do look forward to your visits.

P.S. Although the museum per se is not for sale (we could not bear to see it taken over and changed by others), if anyone knows somebody looking to purchase a used island, either empty or including the homes, scuba, and non-museum things, please give them my name. I will pay 10% finders fee on sale of a sim. Tsora Enoch indicates she will entertain offers regarding her creations. I would just like to recoup a little of my investment.

Live Long and Prosper!

Clothing Designer Needed for RFL

Once again it is time to start thinking about the Relay For Life. For those who don't know, this is an annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. The Sunweavers have been big supporters of the Passionate Redheads team the last couple of years, and we are gearing up for another great season of helping to fight cancer.

The kickoff event this year will be a clothing fair, and I am looking for a clothing designer to make an outfit to be donated to the fair. Contact me if interested and all the details.

Coming soon

The Clothing Fair commitee is proud to announce the dates for Second Life's 4th Annual Clothing Fair benefitting Relay for Life.  Events are set to launch on Saturday, March 13th at 3pm slt and run 24/7 through Sunday, March 21, 2010 when the doors must close at 9pm SLT.

The Clothing Fair began as a dream three years ago with 34 stores participating in this event for Relay for Life. Since that date, it has grown to over 150 designers over 9 sims and has raised over 11 million Linden Dollars for RFL.

This year is no different.  Prepare to be immersed in 8 of the greatest "Fashion Cities of the World" surrounding a center sim patterned after the UN Sculpture Gardens containing sculptures from some of SL's most talented artists.

We have some of the cream of the crop coming together in the fashion world of Second Life bringing designs from all over the world to this virtual shopping experience. Each of these designers dedicate months of time getting ready for this event.  They are all committed to raising as much money for Relay for Life as possible.

This year we are again inviting the Live Musicians and DJ's of Second Life to join us. Covering 24/ 7 through-out the fair, fundraising, and letting us all know just what can be found through-out the 9 sims.

The Clothing Fair 2010 promises to be even better than ever, featuring:

Over 150 Clothing Designers

Live Music and DJ's to keep you entertained while you shop

St. Patrick's Day Party with RL Keltic Music performed by LabGraal

Photo Contest

Fashion Shows

Treasure Hunts

And Much Much More. ....

I have given away enough of their secrets. Once again, entry into the fair is free.   As the event draws closer, additional details will be announced on the official website: http://slrflclothingfair.blogspot.com/

Special thanks to the Clothing Fair Committee Members, SL- Newspaper , Royal Elite Magazine and the Builders who gave hours of time to this project: Melody Regent and her team from Regent Estates, Mermaidee Juliesse, Seri Writer , Kim Seifert , Viscount Menatep, Luna Barak,  Windyy Lane, Izzie Rexen, Tari Landar, and Grace Louden.

Relay for Life Of Second Life Goes to National Summit

Leaders of the Relay For Life of Second Life travelled to Dallas,Texas
this past weekend to participate in the 2009 Relay For Life Nationwide Leadership Summit.
The Summit is an annual activity bringing together Relay staff and
volunteer leadership for 2 days of training to help each Relay
improve and grow. Attendees from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom
and South Africa were joined by Second Life as honored guests. The
summit goers attended various workshops designed to arm them with the
newest innovations and ideas, reinforce basic Relay activities and
share individual ideas and successes.

Relay For Life of Second Life was represented by incoming Event Chair
Tayzia Abattoir, co-chair Nuala Maracas and Trader Whiplash. They
were joined there by Staff Partner Stingray9798 Raymaker.

Reuel Johnson, the American Cancer Society's Vice President for Relay
For Life specifically cited Relay For Life of Second Life during his
opening remarks, noting that the virtual Relay had exceeded its
target, raising more than $274,000, had attracted more than 120 teams,
and had over 750 years of survivorship represented on the track during
its opening lap on July 18th.

The avatar of Trader Whiplash, co-winner of the 2009 Spirit of Relay award in Second Life, presented a 3

minute video to the nearly 500 attendees, as part of the Quality portion of the summit.

A highlight of this year’s conference was the induction of longtime
Society volunteer Jeff Ross of North Carolina into the Relay For Life
Hall of Fame. Jeff is an 8 year Relayer who's passion and dedication
to Relay is overshadowed only by his unending passion for people and
life. He has been called upon to speak at Relays all around the globe
and is affectionately known as the Relay Preacher. He joins Dr. Gordy
Klatt, who in 1985 founded Relay For Life by running around a track in
Tacoma Washington for 24 hours raising $24,000 for the Society. Pat
Flynn known as the Mother of Relay, a friend and patient of Dr Klatt
who helped establish Relay as the Society's signature fundraising
event, the late Terry Zahn, a reporter and anchorman from Hampton
Roads, VA who produced a television series called “My Life With Cancer”
as well as 2 nationally-distributed videos encouraging communities to
hold Relay For Life events, and Dr. Bob Brodell who founded the first
Celebration on the Hill to bring Relay For Life to the Capitol, and
helped integrate the Advocacy role into Relay For Life.

For more information about the National Summit please contact Trader1 Whiplash or Stingray9798 Raymaker in world. To take part in the 2010 Relay for Life of Second Life or to stay informed please join SL's RFL Volunteer group.

Topic: Orfeo's Oratorio

Orefeo's Oratorio: Both Worlds (c) Alizarin Goldflake

The SL premiere of "Orfeo's Oratorio" will take place at Alizarin Goldflake's Open Studio on Sunday, June 14, 3 - 5 pm PDT.

An immersive art environment, it is a virtual amusement park with an Upper World/Under World theme. The centerpiece of the upper level is an other-worldly fountain. Two-person steerable gondolas and 1-person fixed-path coracles play the role of bumper cars. The coracles swing the rider into space for a spectacular view back inside. There are dance pose balls and in a corner a Circle of Confusion where a perpetual party rages. A quote from the end of Dante's "Inferno" periodically drifts up and out through a circular opening in the roof. The floor, with its texture of black and transparent squares, creates the illusion of a mirror-like reflection that, along with the columns and arches on the walls, lends a Venetian atmosphere. Viewers will also want to notice how the light changes from day to night and back again.

Orefeo's Oratorio: The Upper World (c) Alizarin Goldflake

Two blue-jetted ferris wheels connect the Upper World to the Underworld, which is an upsidedown version of the former. Hot oranges and purples replace the cool blue colors of the Upper World, and the Salsa Inferna pose balls dance the avatars on the ceiling. The underworld coracle is ringed with fire, and particle flames shoots up from the floor. Crackling sconces light the ends, and a lava fountain drips particle sparks from the ceiling like a giant chandelier. Another quote from the Inferno sinks slowly through the floor. And a single ferris wheel connects the rider to the Outside World. As in a musical oratorio, the images here are contrapuntal, yet play with each other in a harmony of form and color. The build is 337 prims and took 5 months to complete. It was an NPIRL Pick on May 30, 2009.

Other Atelier Alizarin Attractions include: immersive art and musical kinetics in Sky Studio Day & Sky Studio Night, The Particularium on the third floor, RL digital drawings on the second floor, and 2-D digital collages on the first floor, and a redesigned garden outside.

NEW BUSINESS HORIZONS WINS GOLD FROM SECOND LIFE CREATOR LINDEN LABS

Second Life business park and conferences developer, New Business Horizons (http://www.nbhorizons.com ), is today being awarded the prestigious accolade of Gold Solution Provider by Second Life creator Linden Labs. After a rigorous vetting programme, NBH joins just 30 other businesses worldwide in receiving the new award, launched today by Linden Labs.

New Business Horizons (NBH) runs the Blue Horizon business park in the online virtual world of Second Life, where it provides managed offices, conference facilities and other business centre services for a wide variety of clients including Universal Music Group (UMG), the Institute of Travel & Meetings (ITM) and Macmillan Cancer Support. Its work for UMG, whose artists include Amy Winehouse, Elton John, Gwen Stefani and U2, includes the building of a bespoke business complex and conference centre straddling four Second Life islands.

NBH and its 30 peers were selected as Gold Solution Providers from a pool of more than 250, in a scheme which recognises them as "particularly well qualified" in providing virtual world services for enterprises and educational institutions.

"Innovative enterprises, military organizations, government agencies and educational institutions are actively using virtual worlds for distance learning, training and simulation," says Tom Hale, Chief Product Officer at Linden Lab. "The Gold Solution Provider Program makes it easy to find experienced partners that can deliver high-quality experiences for a wide range of Second Life projects."

NBH founder and chief executive Alan Haymes comments: "Our aim has always been to make Second Life as accessible and successful as possible for our clients, whether they're smaller businesses seeking serviced offices or global enterprises requiring major developments. Becoming a Gold Solution Provider is a powerful recognition - by the owner of Second Life itself - of our work's quality. It tells enterprises and institutions that we have the official thumbs up."

The award comes just a few months after NBH scooped the prestigious 'Best Use of Technology' award from the Docklands Business Club and the East London Chamber of Commerce.

The clothing line +grasp+ will show another side to the talented *Sweetaholic designer. If you have ever been to *Sweetaholic and set eyes on the kimonos that are made by Asalt, you will know they are some of the most beautiful kimonos ever made in SL. Asalt's clothing lines consist of very detailed, realistic pieces. He is a graphics designer in real life who loves fashion and uses the fantastic platform of SL to express his originality and to do something he loves. Asalt's deep love of fashion shows through the intricate detailing on his pieces and the time he takes creating each of them.

Asalt launched his *Sweetaholic Kimono line in November 2007, very soon after he first rezzed here in SL. *Sweetaholic is now well known amongst the Japanese community in SL, so now seemed a perfect time for Asalt to branch out into a new casual line, thus +grasp+ was born. "What sets Asalt apart from other designers," you may ask. "Why should I attend this," some might wonder. Much like in real life fashion is always changing and +grasp+ is one of the newest stores to hit SL and it will be a part of the next level of change for SL fashion.
