Dark Monday - Follies

Follies is a show by the remarkable Stephen Sondheim. I am telling you, the man is brilliant. Follies was a well-conceived musical about a reunion of a group of vaudeville singer and dancers. Perhaps one of the most sung numbers from the show is I'm Still Here, sung by Eartha Kitt. The song was famously sung by Shirley MacLaine in Postcards From The Edge.

Here is Dorothy Loudon, known for her role of Mrs. Hannigan in the original Annie, singing a medley of Sondheim songs, including the incredible Losing My Mind from Follies and You Could Drive A Person Crazy from Company.

For a more traditional version of I Think About You, here is the glorious Cleo Laine.

Shuttle Launch Broadcast in Second Life

On 8:59 PM SL time (11:59 EST) on Friday August 28, the space shuttle Discovery launched into space from Florida. Here in Second Life, the launch was broadcast live via NASA TV from the Imzadi Dry Dock in the Star Trek Museum region. A crowd of about a couple dozen gathered to watch, including Museum Director Wabisabi Matahari. With the liftoff occurring at night, the blastoff was a particularly striking view. One woman was in such a hurry to get over, She had forgotten to dress properly, and it seemed to take forever for her blouse to rez.

The Discovery is on a 13 day mission to the International Space Station. Among the supplies delivered, the C.O.L.B.E.R.T. treadmill named after a noted comedian. This is mission 128 for the space shuttle program with six more shuttle flights before the entire fleet is retired.

New Music - Jack Peñate

jack penate jack penate
jack penate jack penate
jack penate jack penate

I caught the new video by Jack Peñate on LOGO's NewNextNow show, and really like it. In doing a bit of research, I can find no commentary to the otherwise, and just assume it is another pretty boy MTV Networks are trying to pawn off as 'possibly' gay, but I will get past that. I will just assume he is another Str8 boy desperately needing LGBT love. His sophomore effort was released in the UK at the end of June, and released here in the US only recently. There is something interesting for me in his retro 80s vocal stylings, harkening back for me to Robert Smith of The Cure on some of his poppier numbers. There is the quality of the talking/sung lyrics, with an evocative yet lightly detached delivery.

The London-born Jack has an eclectic feel, with a pop/rock/dance/club thing going on. And he is cute as a button. There are moments he puts me in mind of a younger Sting, the aforementioned Robert Smith, and other times distinctly himself. He is much more melodic than those two, but every bit as creative. Give Yourself Away, the 7th cut on the 9-cut Everything Is New CD, really screams out to me. The eighth cut, Let's All Die, has a kinda ska flavor that is reminiscent of Terry Hall, should he ever be given to happy days.

What little there is to learn about Jack Peñate can be gleaned at his website, here.

Worth Another Listen - Clannad

Clannad was an Irish group steeped in the tradition of Irish Folk and New Age music. The nucleus of the group was a family, with brothers, sisters and uncles making up the roster. Lead singer was Moya Brennan, whose sister, Enya, went on to considerable success. Frankly, I'll take Moya any day of the week. Although they came together in the 70s, it was the 80s where Clannad found their success, recording for movie soundtracks like Harry's Game and television shows like Robin of Sherwood. In 1986, the band recorded the song In A Lifetime with Bono, lead singer of Irish supergroup U2, although it was re-released in 1992 to a much greater response. It is their most successful song to date. The band still plays and tours together.

Chapter 4.1

The end of the last chapter saw the passing of Brent Roland, third gen heir. He left behind his wife, Ebony, three children and two tiny little granddaughters. Ebony is lost without him. Brent and her had met when they were just children and never knew any other loves. They bonded over her mean spiritness and his grumpiness.
Life goes on though and the mood manager fixed Ebony's sadness :) As you might recall, in the last chapter I moved Andria, Dante's wife, in knowing she was already an adult but not realizing how close to elderhood she really was. Less then a day after giving birth to her only child, Brianna, Andria became an elder.
Andria: "I feel so old."
Dante: "How can you say that? You're beautiful and have a bouncing baby girl to keep you young."
Andria: "Ha! I'll never be able to keep up with her. You'll have to keep a close on our daughter as she gets older."
Dante: "We'll see. I'm not exactly dad material."
Andria: "Maybe not but since you love the outdoors so much you can just follow her around and peak through windows to see what she's up to. If she ever catches on you can plead insanity and she'd probably believe you."
Dante: "Very funny."
Andria: "C'mon, you're clearly a little loopy in the head. Who walks around in their swim wear all day?"
Dante: "What's wrong with that?"
Andria: "Nothing. It's one of the many things I love about you."
Melanie, this gen's heiress, and her baby daddy, Daniel, are still not married or even engaged for that matter. Now, that Brent's gone Daniel can move in...wrong! There's one slot open in the house and Daniel has a toddler in his home. He's the only adult in the house so he can't leave her. Augh! I can't believe he already has a kid. Wrong again! I checked his family tree and it turns out the toddler is actually his aunt. All her siblings have died already but she's only a toddler. Can we say glitch!?! How annoying! I guess I'll have to wait to move him in until more space opens up.
It's not often you see someone upgrading their flat screen tv in a suit. Dante really isn't right in the head but you gotta love him. He still has about 4 or 5 levels left in the military field before he'll reach his LTW. Augh!
Anyone want to guess who Melanie is speaking with? He looks like a combo of his mom and dad. It's Jasper, Zebulon and Fiona's son. I'm so glad to see him growing up well.
Jasper was invited over along with his parents, Ginger, Chloe's boy toy and some other friends to help celebrate Hiedi's birthday. That's Melanie's daughter for those who don't remember. I was so glad to see Fiona and her family. I really liked Brent from gen 3 but I think Fiona actually was my favorite. Ginger and her can't have much time left since they were just a few days younger then Brent so I wanted to make sure to see them one last time and what better way then to throw a birthday party.
Hmm, it kind of looks like Hiedi didn't make it to the cake in time. I can't remember for sure. Oh well, I'm pretty sure the party was a huge success so it didn't matter anyways. Hiedi hates the outdoors and is evil. I can't really say I'm looking forward to her.
Melanie: "Aunt Ginger, how's the campaign going? Do you need a donation? I'm sure we can help a little."
Ginger: "That's sweet dear, but I retired a few months ago. It was time, my mind doesn't work quite the way it use to. I'm getting old."
Melanie: "Well, you always knew how to throw an awesome campaign fundraiser. Those were legendary. Sims still talk about those today."
After the party was over and Hiedi was changed into clothes that are her favorite color, I finally decided to have my toddlers start reading books. I forgot who, but I sent one of the family members to the books store and bought all the children's books. This is very exciting to me. I've been hearing about toddler books in other legacies for awhile but am slow and am just starting to use them now.
She just looks mean, huh? With Brent gone, Ebony is spending a lot of time with her grandchildren. At least Brianna isn't evil like her cousin, otherwise she'd probably be getting a sick pleasure out of the disgruntled look on her grandma's face.
Oh my goodness...these two hate each other so much! All they ever do is argue. It's kind of sad to watch a mother and daughter dislike the other so much. I guess when you have two mean spirited sims living in the same house this will likely be the result when left on free will.
Yay! It's about freaking time. You two have been dating forever and already have one daughter together. If you can't be married yet the least you can be is engaged.
Um, yeah. Clearly the engagement lead to some woohoo. I had them try and try for baby but I never heard a lullaby. Eventually, I got tired of having them try and sent Melanie home. Tomorrow's always another day.
Later that night, it was Brianna's turn to become a toddler. She's only a day younger then her cousin, Hiedi. Brianna may look a little evil in this picture but I assure you so far she's not. Her traits are absent minded and excitable.
Ebony has gotten even worse since Brent died. She was never the nicest sim in the world but she's attacking nearly everything she crosses paths with. Before it use to be her chess opponents but it's evolved into the family ghosts. I'd be willing to bet Constance's ghost did absolutely nothing to trigger Ebony's anger.
That's weird. I heard no lullaby yesterday and the option to try for baby kept coming up over and over so she cant' be pregnant. I must have had her eat something with meat in eat. She's a vegetarian and probably is sick from that.
Well, what do you know. It seems like Daniel's glitched aunt isn't the only funky thing about his lot. After what I thought were failed attempts to get her pregnant yesterday, I sent her back over to try for a baby with Daniel until she got knocked up when all of a sudden she just popped. I guess the attempts yesterday worked.
With Brent gone, Ebony enjoys spending time in the garden looking over the plants Brent took great care of. Andria can't let Ebony have all the fun though. If nobody but Ebony is allowed to take care of the garden she still calls dibs on the sprinkler, that is if Dante doesn't want to run through it first.
At the moment, Dante's trying to be a good dad to his little girl. He may not be completely right in the head but he certainly knows how to walk so it can't be hard to teach Brianna how to.
Dante looks great in uniform, huh? I believe I took this picture to show he just got a promotion. He's still like four levels away from reaching the top of his career and he only goes to work like three days a week. I'm afraid he'll never become an Astronaut...at least not while he's in the legacy house. I'm very tempted to move him and his family out to make room for Melanie's fiance.
Speaking of which, Melanie had another baby girl. Her name is Katie and she's a couch potato and a genius, just like Fiona was at her age. I definitely wouldn't mind having another Fiona around.
At first, I didn't think Daniel showed up for her birth but he must have since he came home with her.

Melanie: "I wish this house wasn't so cramped so you could move in and we could get married."
Daniel: "Why can't we get married and I just live next door?"
Melanie: "What? Don't you want to live with me?"
Daniel: "That's not what I said."
Melanie: "Well, my mom can't live forever."
Daniel: "What a terrible thing to say."
Melanie: "Whatever, she makes me so angry!"
Melanie is seriously worried about her oldest daughter and rightfully so seeing how she's evil and all. She seems to have serious anger management issues. Every time someone picks her up she just starts screaming and giving them nasty looks.
Whoa! I think I'd be more worried about Brianna after her grandfather's ghost picked her up. She'll be scared for life! I've never seen a ghost pick up a baby or toddler before. It's kind of cool and creepy all at the same time.
Yay! Chloe has finally become an Illustious Author which means she can move out and make a spot for Daniel. Normally, I'd have her move in with her boyfriend, or in her case her boy toy, but since she's has commitment issues I won't make that decision for her.
So, I got a pop up saying that Fiona's time was coming to an end and that I should visit now to say my final good-bye or something like that anyways. By the time I got around to sending her nephew, Dante, over for a visit she was already gone. Boo! It seems Jasper's all grown up and looks a lot like his dad except thinner with darker hair.
Birthday time! Both of Melanie's daughters are getting a little older. Katie was the first to transition. I'll have to get a shirt on her. I could see a boy growing up without a shirt but why a girl?
Next up it was Hiedi's turn. For her third trait she rolled Eddie's loser trait. Oh boy, she's going to have serious problems. An evil sim who's a loser and hates the outdoors. Absolutely no good can come of that.
Here is the cute little house I moved Chloe in. I sent Ebony over for a visit to check out her new digs since all I knew when purchasing it for her was the number of bedrooms and bathrooms. It looks cute from the outside so that's promising.
Ebony: "What do you think of your new home? I like all the blue shades."
Chloe: "Of course you would. It's always been your favorite color. The home is very quaint but nice. It's almost too quiet though. I'm used to a lot of noise."
Ebony: "I'm sure you'll get used to that. You could always get married and have a family of your own. I'd like more grandchildren."
Chloe: "A baby I could handle. A husband maybe not. I like my freedom too much."
Back on the main lot, Melanie and Hiedi are playing chess. I bet they're both cheating, but then again Melanie's too smart to let that happen. I took this picture in honor of Melanie getting her final logic skill point and achieving her LTW to have a perfect mind and perfect body. Yay!
The big day has finally arrived. After having two children together and living right next door to each other for years, Melanie and Daniel are tying the knot. I wonder where his aunt is. I've never seen a toddler in the house.
Ah, there she is. Her name is Tammi and she's suddenly a kid. Interesting. When I checked Daniel's family tree a few minutes ago she was still a toddler.
Whoa! What's going on!?! She started transitioning into a teen almost immediately. This is quite a glitch. I was half expecting her to keep aging up until she became so old the grim reaper came for her but this is where she stopped rapidly aging. Tammi is brave, a couch potato, clumsy and grumpy. I could age her up right now to a young adult and kick her out but I don't mind keeping her around for a little while.
What did you think these two were going to do after getting married? Snuggle in each other arms? Ha! They've always been woohoo maniacs! I don't know why they'd ever stop.

For those that are curious Daniel's traits are: green thumb, mooch, slob, virtuoso and grumpy.
My original plan was to leave Dante, Andria and Brianna on the legacy lot until Danta became an astronaut, but he's too many days away from that still. I want Melanie and Daniel to have more babies before Hiedi becomes a young adult so I moved Dante's family to their own home. I made sure it had two bedrooms. Those are hard to find in the price range they were looking. I was lucky to have even found one.
It was Ebony again who I sent over for a visit. I definitely think this house suits Dante and Andria since their favorite color is brown and all you see is shades of it. I have a feeling they'll be very happy here.
Melanie: "I made you the pancakes you wanted."
Hiedi: "You were taking too long. I got leftover one's from the fridge."
Melanie: "Oh...well, these are fresh and probably tastier."
Hiedi: "Eh..."
Well, that didn't take long. Melanie will soon be expecting baby number three, and four and maybe five? Hehe! I'm going to do an experiment and see if she can have triplets. I haven't had them in my game yet nor have I read about anyone who has. Melanie has the fertility treatment lifetime award and will be watching a lot of children's tv and listening to a lot of kids music - simultaneously.
Hiedi's been wanting to go to the cemetary ever since she became a kid so I finally sent her. I let her explore the masoleum for hours and besides the fact that she hates being outside she seemed right at home there. Maybe I'll get her a job there some day.
Ebony's time has come to an end. She certainly lived a long and full life. She must have been about 105. I'm sure she'll be much happier then she's been once she see's Brent again. Unless I was making her be friendly she always picked on sims. You really have to watch out for those mean spirited sims. They'll make everyone hate them if you don't.
Everyone that was home came to say good-bye. I was surprised to see Melanie grieving. It was no secret how much these two despised each other. Their relationship was about as far in the red as possible. Poor Tammi got shocked while trying to repair the teleportation pad and didn't have time to shower before paying her respects to Ebony.
Something tells me Hiedi wasn't really grieving for her grandmother either. All she wanted to do was talk to the grim reaper. While most kids would have been afraid, Hiedi was all too eager to introduce herself. She found out the grim reaper is childish!
While Ebony was dying, Daniel was out mooching food and money from other sims. He mooched a few bucks off this guy and then got him to give him some food. Daniel will take whatever he can get, as long as he's not the one spending money. What a cheap-o!
Early the next morning, Tammi joined Melanie in watching the "Little Big Foot" show while some children's tunes played in the background. Twins are practically guaranteed now, but I want to see triplets! I guess I'm a gluten for punishment. I can't imagine how hard it would be to take care of three toddlers and teach them all their skills.
Tammi took another stab at repairing the teleportation pad and managed not to get electrocuted this time. Thank goodness! The young man doing his homework next to her followed her home after school. I wonder if they'll get along.
The moment of truth has finally arrived. It's time to find out how many babies Melanie will have. The birth took forever. This is the first time I did not send her to the hospital. She continued to huff and puff for hours so meanwhile I checked to see what the rest of the family was up to.
Tammi and her new friend seem to be getting along rather well. She's already made sure he's single so that's a good sign. I see a long and happy future for these two which involves her moving in with him as soon as she becomes a young adult.
While Melanie's struggling to keep her breathing under control her lovely husband is downstairs playing his guitar. What a big help he is. I suppose it's better then him standing around freaking out though. That certainly can't help much. I'm going to be cruel and end the chapter here. Find out next time how many babies Melanie has.
