Memorial Service Held for Majel Barrett in Second Life
On Sunday January 4 at 10:00 AM SL time, a memorial service was held for Majel Barret, the wife of Star Trek’s creator Gene Roddenberry. She had passed away two weeks ago on December 18 2008. Hosted by the Galaxy Fleet Command group, it was held in the Constellation sim.At the door, there were ceremonial dress uniforms for GFC group members, as well as black armbands for anyone. Near the entrance was a memorial book freely available. The service was attended by people from a number of Trek groups, as well as some outside them.Continued in EVENTS.

Eye on the Blog - About the Homestead Launch and Script Limits
As we have previously blogged, Homesteads will be launched as a new product on Monday 5th January. Those of you that own an Openspace should already have received emails from us explaining the changes taking place; this post is to ensure that you have as much information as possible ahead of the change.
In launching a new product, there are many areas that will change, including additions to the website, new knowledgebase articles, and of course, changes to the Land Store itself.
Timing:- January 5th: From 8am until 12 noon SLT, Land Store closed for maintenance. Upon opening, both Homesteads and Openspaces will be available as options for island owners.
- January 5th: All Openspace regions to undergo rolling restart. Most will happen before Noon SLT.
Billing
- If your normal monthly bill date is before the 5th you will be billed your new rate in February 09
- If your normal monthly bill date is on or after the 5th, you will be billed the new rate in January 09
- Educators that have paid for a half or full year in advance will be unaffected by rate increase until their renewal date. For more information and to confirm renewal dates contact the Concierge team.
Script Limits
- We will need to implement script limits to prevent a heavily overloaded region from negatively affecting the performance of another region.
Timing for Script Limits:
- In Q1, we will be gathering data on script load, and sharing this usage data with the community before deciding what the most appropriate limits are.
- In Q2, we expect there to be Viewer changes to allow you to monitor your script usage against those limits.
- In Q3 we will begin enforcing script limits.

Little Christmas Celebration
Ze Novikov sent me a note card to tell me about an event she has witnessed in Nuova Sicilia.It was a live Nativity Scene involving avatars who played and celebrated the real meaning of Chirstmas in a town church in that sim.
She described it “I found the event to be sweet and creative as you too can participate as an angel on high.“
The event will be presented again on January 6 with the coming of the magi, or wise men on the last day of Christmas.Sicily Zapatero was the artistic decorator for the event. Eros Boa did the animations.
The event is dedicated to the founder of the Nuova Sicilia, Cristos Benneli.

Second Life Residents Participate in a Health Care Community Discussion
By Nazz Lane In cities and towns across the country, citizens of the United States have been engaged as part of President Elect Obama's transition project to participate in community forums to discuss health care. On Monday evening, the 29th of December, one such community meeting occurred in the virtual world of second life where thirty people gathered at the Port Spinoza Café in a session moderated by Siri Vita. In an e-mail sent prior to the forum, Ms Vita explained to invitee's that the session is, "part of the President-elect's continuing effort to reach out and directly involve the American people in their own government. Health care is a top priority for President-Elect Obama, and he wants your help in designing a system that provides quality, affordable health care for all Americans."

So 2009 begins
It was fantastic to see the new year in with friends, a lot of the crew came to join me at the main office as well as close friends like Pup Witherspoon and I am actually glad it wasn't a huge crowd at least I got to chat and have a laugh with friends. It was a lovely atmosphere with DJ Qwark playing 70's 80's and 90's music for us. We were counting down to the European New Year at 3pm slt but we ended up staying until we hit midnight GMT with fireworks on both
Then I was off to Skybeam Estates and the New Year ball the amazing DJ Dakota Christensen was on a mission to see in each new year around the world going from 2pm SLT through to 1am today so if you missed the party last night you can still join in at http://slurl.com/secondlife/SkyBeam%20Muse/204/44/24 Here was a real sense of community and I felt at home.
Skybeam also announced their contest winners, over christmas Skybeam held 2 contests one for plot decoration with 3 prizes being awarded dependant on plot size and an Ice sculpture contest 3 prizes awarded to the 2 catagories or sculpts or non- sculpted sculptures and the winners were:Decorating Contest , sponsored by Charlene and Amethyst of Captured Heart ..

Later I popped into to the beautiful Roselindas Paradise with Rose and Eymerich Unfortunately not long after everyone finally rezzed my struggling computer finally gave up and crashed completely by this time it was almost 3am for me so I gave up. Thank you for the invitation Eymerich, I am sorry I couldn't stay.
I would like to thank all for making 2008 a great year and I look forward to a brand new year with lots of exciting challenges for us all.
2008 and has been eventful to say the least very firmly seperating the Lindens from the Residents with some VERY unpopular choices on the lindens part, my wish for 2009 is for Linden Lab to realise the damage they are doing to Secondlife and to act now before the good in SL is lost through mistrust of them.
I, for one, love secondlife as many I know do but now most stay for their friends and if large networks leave others will follow.
